I can’t get any pay programs, and when I try to get into safe mode the keyboard we have is a USB, when I try to go into safe mode the selection screen the keyboard turns off.
Can somebody tell me what to do step by step, not leaving any details out, or IMing me on YIM, mine is arekyakaito with help, please D:

Chosen Answer:

I have spent 2 days getting my computer rid of 3 trojan spyware gremlins.

I first of all downloaded and paid for Spyware Detector and the Registry Cleaner. These both helped a little but I was left with two more gremlins, so I used first of all Stopzilla which got rid of one of the viruses and then I was left with the dreaded WinspywareProtect. After scanning quite a few times with Spyware Detector, I finally downloaded a free copy of SuperantiSpyware. This finally got rid of all my bugs.

My computer is back to its old speed again and I thank the three Antispyware products.

What is your operating system? If XP, have you upgraded to Windows XP Service Pack 2 = http://www.komando.com/tips_wxpsp2.asp ? If not, I suggest you do so, for amoung other security reasons it stops unwanted popups by disableing Windows Messenger Service and Alerter by default. = =SP2 = support.microsoft.com = http://support.microsoft.com/windowsxpsp2

Please remove “Stopzilla” & “No Adware”, both border on being rouge and pure junk.

Download the free version of Superantispyware. Will find viruses & spyware with no conflict to your own antivirus. I use myself and is well known to find what all other miss or unable to delete. http://www.superantispyware.com Update and run and in depth scan. Free you must update daily on a manual basis. Will resolve your problem.

Chosen Answer:

Used with permission from NumberSix6
Printing this would be helpful

Step 1) DON’T PANIC! Take a deep breath and go grab a cup of your favorite beverage. This may take awhile.
Step 2) Clean up your pc. Remove programs you don’t use via the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. In Vista, you remove programs by clicking Programs and Features in the Control Panel. If you are unsure of a particular program, you can check it against a list of offenders here: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread….
Clean your hard drive of unnecessary files using CCleaner here: http://www.ccleaner.com/download/…
Save to your desktop, install it, then run the cleaner. Simple, yet it will free up tons of space on your hard drive. While you have the program open, run the Registry Checker as well. This will fix invalid registry entries safely. Note that you should run CCleaner for ALL accounts on your pc.
Step 3) Create a new System Restore point. Click Start>All Programs> Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. Create a restore point. Now delete all but this most recent restore point. Click Start>All Programs>Accessories> System Tools>Disk Cleanup. Click More Options tab, and then under System Restore, click Clean up. Click Yes to remove all but the most recent restore point. Click OK, click Yes, and then click OK.
Step 4) Now let’s start to get rid of those nasties. Download the following programs to your Desktop. You should then install each one, but don’t run them yet. Patience…patience.
Lavasoft’s Ad-Aware from here: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_a…
AVG Anti-Spyware from here:

http://www.ewido.net/en/download/…

Spybot Search and Destroy from here:

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/downl…

SUPERAntiSpyware from here:

http://www.superantispyware.com/…

I know this seems like overkill, but until someone can come up with one program that can detect everything in the wild, we need to use programs from several reputable sources.
Step 5) Use them safely. Once these programs are installed on your pc, their effectiveness may be negated by running scans normally. You need to reboot your pc into Safe Mode. Shut down your pc, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on. As your computer restarts but before Windows launches, press F8.
Use the arrow keys to highlight the Safe Mode with Networking option, which loads all of the above files and drivers and the essential services and drivers to start networking, and press Enter. If Windows launches before you can choose a safe mode, restart your computer and try again. Now it’s time to start each program you installed and run scans. First, open Ad-Aware, update to the latest signatures, and run a full system scan. Delete any malware found, close the program and move on to AVG Anti-Spyware. Again, update, run complete scan, and delete the baddies. Do the same for Spybot and SuperAntiSpyware. When you are finished, restart the computer normally.
Step 6) Clean up and protect. I would recommend leaving AVG and Ad-Aware on your system, and delete the other two. These anti-spyware programs do not conflict and offer good future protection. If you happen to like the interface of the others, then by all means keep the ones you want, just so long as you have at least one solid stand-alone on your system. Uninstall the others via Add/Remove in the Control Panel.
Step 7) Not done yet. We’ve taken care of the spyware, but there still may be viruses and trojans lurking on your pc. If there is an anti-virus program running on your pc, shut it down. Yes, you read right, end the program. We need to run a few online scans that may conflict with the anti-virus installed. Go to Trend Micro: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/… to download and run their free online scanner. Take whatever action the scanner tells you for any virus found. Finally, do the same with the Panda Online ActiveScan : http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/ac…
Restart your computer.
Step Peace at last. Make sure your anti-virus program of choice is running again and is up-to-date. If you do not have one, I suggest AVG Free Antivirus here: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/ or Avast 4 Home:

http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-…

Be sure you have at least one of the anti-spyware programs running, and also make sure you have a good firewall. PC Tools Firewall Plus is free and works on XP and Vista: http://www.pctools.com/firewall/… , as does WinPatrol 2007:

http://www.winpatrol.com/download.html…

This procedure will remove MOST malware. However, it may not catch some really nasty buggers. If you’ve followed all the steps and still believe you have something not right on your pc, you need some extra help. Go here: http://www.tomcoyote.org/hijackthis… to download a program called HijackThis. It examines certain key areas of the Registry and Hard Drive and lists their contents. Install, run and save a logfile which you may post on one of the forums listed on that same page as above. Some kind soul will then come along and examine your logfile and give you recommendations in order to wipe any remaining buggers away.
Please email me with comments, suggestions, and errors. If you like it, feel free to pass it on to other infected folks.

Every internet search goes through go.google.com and ends up on a sales site or worse. None of my anti-virus programs will update as all internet access is blocked from these. And 3 pop up blockers (stopzilla free, IE tools pop up blocker and even mozilla and safari) are not stopping these redirected sites and associated pop ups. I am stumped! Is my DNS hosed? I even got redirected to a singles site when I hit the “continue” button below! HELP!

Chosen Answer:

How to remove Fake Software, Toolbars, Trojans and Viruses:

Download, install, update and scan your computer with both SuperantiSpyware and Malwarebytes, delete what ever they find, if this fails to completely remove the virus/spyware download then update Avast and run a boot scan (click schedule boot-time scan and restart your PC), all the software below is completely free and safe to use and will completely clean your computer.

SuperantiSpyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/

Malwarebytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Avast Anti-Virus: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

To protect your PC in the future you need to use anti-virus software and a firewall, id recommend using Avast and Comodo Pro firewall both are very effective and completely free, you should also switch to Firefox 3 if you are browsing with IE as its much safer. (links on my profile)

I have a Dell Dimension that used to be lightening fast but over the past year has slowed dramatically. I have Norton 2006 installed as well as Stopzilla for blocking pop-ups. Do these programs conflict? I have gone through and deleted all unnecessary programs and have plenty of hard disk space but am still dealing with slow response time especially when opening and closing programs and utilities. Any suggestions on what I can do or what the problem may be?

Chosen Answer:

Norton is a resource hog. It takes about 70M of RAM to run. I’d get rid of it and use AVG Antivirus. It’s FREE and available at http://www.grisoft.com or http://www.download.com

Here are some tips for maintaining your PC and to keep it running efficiently.

A major cause of slow PC’s is fragmentation of the hard drive.
You need to defragment the HD at least once a week if not more depending on how much you use your computer, and what you do with it.

One way is to use the defragment utility built into Windows XP. It is slow but does the job rather well. Go to:
Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools and then click on System Defrag to run the tool. It may take several hours, so let it run overnight or simply walk away from your PC for a few hours.

A great program for defragging automatically is Diskeeper. It costs but is well worth it. Go to http://www.download.com and search for Diskeeper. Read the Publishers Description and the Editor and User reviews. It can be scheduled to run automatically as the program deems necessary, and if you are using your PC and the program launches itself, it will take a backseat to whatever you are doing and give you the priority for CPU usage. I think you’ll agree it’s a good program to have. It precludes your needing to remember to defrag at regular intervals.

Another major cause of a slow PC is programs that are running in the background. Here’s another really good Microsoft tool. It’s called Autoruns and it was written by SysInternals who were recently bought up by Microsoft.

Before you download the program create a folder under program files called Autoruns. Leave Windows Explore open.

Launch Internet Explored and go to the following Microsoft web page.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/autoruns.mspx

Go to the bottom of the page and download the Autoruns program. After it downloads open the file. It is a Zip file. Unzip the file and you will see 4 files. Drag and drop those 4 files to the Autoruns folder you created under Program Files.

Once you have the 4 files in the C:\Program Files\Autoruns folder you can double click on the file titled “autoruns”.

This will bring up a window with several tabs at the top. Click on the “Logon” tab. It will list the programs that are running on your PC and eating up resources. Look them over carefully and turn off any that don’t absolutely have to be running. Simply click on the “check mark” in the little box beside the program name. Clicking on it will remove the check mark. Once you have edited the Startup list, click on Apply and then on OK.
NOTE: Leave items that show Windows; System 32; Program Files; etc. alone. Shutting them off may cause some things not to work.

Once you have exited the window, reboot your PC for the settings to take effect.

WARNING: Don’t go into the other tabs and start deleting things. You will probably give yourself major headaches if you do that. Stay focused on the “Logon” List only.

Another good thing to have is a little program called FreeRAM XP Pro. It is free and is available from http://www.download.com This program puts a little RAM meter on the System Tray and shows how much RAM you have remaining that you are not using at any given time. I think you may be surprised at how little RAM you have to run other programs. Also, once it is installed you can right click on the little meter, then click on RESTORE and it will open the RAM display window. You can tweak the settings so it will display your CPU usage also. Then just click “Minimize” and then “To System Tray” to return to the Task Bar.

What happens when you run out of or run real low on RAM is that the OS recognizes the low or no RAM situation and starts using a section of your hard drive as memory. This is called virtual memory, or a swap file. The PC is constantly writing and reading from your HD. Comparitively, it is a very slow process. Check your motherboard manual and determine how much RAM each slot can hold. It will also tell you what type of RAM you need. You can also go to http://www.crucial.com or http://www.4allmemory.com and run their analysis utility to determine what kind and how much RAM is installed in your PC. Depend on your MoBo manual to determine the RAM limits of each slot though.

Hope this helps
